2.2.4 Difference between Respect and Fear.

Respect is often mislabeled as fear. Sometimes both may display same effects, but they definitely have some difference between them. Respect is a positive feeling of admiration towards a person or entity.  Fear is  a distressing emotion aroused by impending evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. Fear is forced whereas respect is earned. Though obedience can be created using either fear or respect, the long term effects vary significantly.

During my school days, I used to have a Teacher to whom I used to fear a lot. I used to do all the assignments what he assigned. I was obedient to him but I never respected him. There was always a feeling of hatred towards him. Fear never creates a healthy relation. Fear creates submission and not obedience. Fear destroys the self-confidence whereas respect enhances it. Sense of revenge usually generates toward the person or entity that creates fear.

Thinking about respect my parents come to my mind. They never forced me to do anything against my will. They let me free so that I can learn on my own. This freedom and unconditional love, my parents have provided me, has generated respect towards them.

2.2.3Difference between Confidence and Arrogance

I believe that there are no such things such as positive or negative, right or wrong. It is just one’s perception that turns them into reality. Let’s take example of Quantum Mechanics; it is proved that just an act of observation changes a behavior of an element from wave to particle. Perception is reality. We can even find Gautam Buddha stating that that world we perceive is just in our mind. Identical thing can be perceived differently and different things can be observed similar. Same is the case for confidence and arrogance; it varies according one’s point of view.
To my mind I possess both confidence and arrogance inside me. Although confidence and arrogance both entail strong belief in one’s own ability, there is a fine line between them. Confidence is positive and mature where as arrogance is negative and pretentious. Arrogance is a failed attempt for confidence. When I’m confident I am internally calm and contended. Arrogance usually creates conflicts and all the negative vibes inside me. There is always a slight sense of inferiority behind the arrogance.
Though I have portrayed arrogance as an undesirable attitude, I think it’s very important to experience it. One cannot simply achieve confidence without going through arrogance. They are two faces of a coin; single existence is not possible.

ROLES AS A HUMAN

I really enjoy eating meat. Those juicy KFC fried chickens just makes my day. I found nothing wrong in consuming meat until one day when I myself went to a meat shop to buy it. I really got disturbed by the way the animals were being slaughtered. The fact that I was going to consuming those carcass created an unsettling guilt inside me. It was totally unacceptable that those innocent animals were ruthlessly killed just for the sake of my taste buds.

Humans are extremely intelligent. In fact, we are far more intelligent than we need to survive. Essentially, as a species, we cannot be harmed. So, we are just taking unethical advantage of our intelligence on our fellow beings. Like humans, animals want to survive too. How can we kill our fellow beings, just because we can? We clearly have a choice .We are omnivores and we live in a time where science and technology is so advanced that it won’t be too difficult to find a substitute.

It has been about a year that I have been going with a vegetarian diet.  Though vegetarian foods are not as tasty as non-veg ones, but the fact that I am doing my bit against the animal cruelty is surely a satisfying feeling.
